For my first and second site evaluations, I presented 10 drug cards and 8 SOAP notes from my presentations on rounds during general surgery including its subspecialties.. My time spent during the site visit with Michael Rachwalski will be a memorable one. During these two visits, he emphasized what needed to be worked on for my soap notes. He expressed that there needs to be a strong emphasis on keeping information in a well organized manner for the subjective part of my soap note. It was also evident that he expressed a need for improvement in the plan section as each rotation subspecialties of surgery has different aspects of a treatment plan for a patient.
This is something that I decided to work on during my first site visit feedback and improved during my final visit. This is crucial since including extra information that is irrelevant to a treatment may take away attention to other key details. During my second site visit I presented 4 different cases, two from neurosurgery and two from urology. I now feel more confident coming up with a plan after discussing the various post-operative concerns that need to be considered. This includes things such as diets pertinent to the patient’s case, different types of IV fluids, pain medications and their doses, antibiotics, GI/DVT prophylaxis, and dispositions.
